Pencil Parade

A pencil-sketch runner where your score is a parade of little pencil stubs with smiley faces. Drag left and right to steer the whole parade down a long sheet of lined paper, through gates that add, multiply, subtract or halve your pencils. Dodge rolling bouncy balls, ink puddles, torn holes and spinning compasses along the way. At the end of each level the parade climbs a stack of books, and the higher it gets, the bigger the bonus.

How to play

  1. Your parade walks down the page on its own. Drag left or right to steer it, and the whole parade follows.
  2. Gates come in pairs across the path. Blue gates add pencils (+5, +10) or multiply them (×2, ×3). Purple gates take pencils away (−5, −10) or halve the parade (÷2). Your parade goes through whichever side you steer into.
  3. Sometimes both sides are good, so pick the better one. Sometimes both are purple, so pick the one that costs the fewest pencils.
  4. Pencils that bump a bouncy ball, splash into an ink puddle, step in a torn hole or get swept by a spinning compass hop off back to the pencil case, unhurt.
  5. At the book stack the parade climbs books marked ×1 up to ×5, leaving a few pencils behind on each book. Your bonus is the pencils you had at the finish, times the highest book reached, times 10.
  6. Each new level starts with 10 pencils and is longer and faster, with more purple gates and obstacles. If every pencil goes home, the game is over.

Controls

  • Phone or tablet: drag your finger left or right anywhere on the screen. The parade moves with your finger, so you don't need to touch the pencils.
  • Computer: click and drag left or right with the mouse.
  • Keyboard: hold the Left and Right arrow keys or A and D to steer. Press P or Escape to pause.
  • The question mark button shows how to play and pauses the game. The speaker button turns sound on or off.

Tips

  • A ×2 or ×3 gate is worth much more once your parade is big. Early on, a +10 can beat a ×2.
  • Line up for the next gate early. Big parades are wide, and the whole line needs time to slide across.
  • Thread small parades through the gaps between puddles and holes. A big parade is safer passing beside an obstacle than through it.
  • The books cost more pencils on later levels, so save your gains for the book stack.

About Pencil Parade

Pencil Parade is a quick sketchbook runner about growing the biggest parade you can. Each choice is a small math puzzle: add or multiply, lose five or lose half. Rolling bouncy balls, ink puddles, torn holes and spinning compasses keep you steering all the way to the book stack.

The book stack finish turns your parade into points. Each book keeps a little tower of pencils behind, and the multiplier on the highest book you reach boosts your bonus. Levels get longer and faster as you go. Nobody gets hurt: pencils that bump into things just hop off to the pencil case for a nap.
