Four in a Frame

A word-sorting puzzle for the whole family. Sixteen words wash up on the beach, and they hide four secret groups of four. Tap four that belong together and check your guess. Groups start easy, like sea animals and colours, and get sneakier as you go, with words that seem to fit two groups at once.

How to play

  1. Tap four words you think belong together, then tap Check.
  2. Get it right and the group lifts to the top in its colour. Yellow groups are the easiest and pink groups are the trickiest.
  3. If you're one word off, it tells you you're one away. Run out of tries and the groups are shown, and you lose a shell. Lose all 3 shells and the game ends.
  4. Pick a level. Beginner has simple groups with 5 tries and 2 hints per puzzle. Intermediate adds wordplay like WATER___ with 4 tries, 1 hint and 1.5X points. Advanced is full of red herrings, with 3 tries, no hints and 2X points. Each level remembers where you got to.
  5. Play the Daily Puzzle from the yellow Daily button. Everyone gets the same puzzle that day, the clock only runs while you're playing, and solving one each day builds your streak. Share your result to challenge friends.
  6. Each group you find scores points, plus a bonus for every try you had left.

Controls

  • Tap or click a word to pick it, and tap it again to put it back.
  • Shuffle mixes up the words, Clear unpicks them, and Hint lights up two words that go together.
  • On a keyboard, press Enter to check and Escape to clear.
  • The Sound button turns sound on or off.

Tips

  • Find the easiest group first. Fewer words left makes the tricky groups easier to spot.
  • If a word fits two groups, save it for last and work out which group needs it.
  • Some groups are word puzzles, like words that go before FISH or words that sound like letters.
  • Use Shuffle when you feel stuck. Seeing the words in a new order often helps.
