Paper Boats
A guessing game for two on graph paper. Each player hides four paper boats on their own page. Take turns tapping a square on the other player's page: a miss is a splash, and a hit gets a pencil X. Find every square of a boat and it floats away. Find all four boats first to win.
- Versus
- 8×8 pages, four boats each
- Play a friend on one device, or the bot
- Easy, Medium and Hard bots
- Saves your record against the bot
How to play
- Pick who to play: a friend on the same device, or the bot.
- Hide your boats: tap Shuffle until you like where they are, then tap Ready. Boats never touch each other.
- Take turns tapping a square on the other player's page. A splash means nothing's there; an X means you hit a boat.
- Hit every square of a boat to find it. The first player to find all four boats wins.
- Playing a friend? The game asks you to pass the phone between turns, so nobody peeks at the other page.
Controls
- Tap or click a square on the big page to guess it.
- Your own page and boats are shown small underneath, with the other player's guesses on it.
- New round hides new boats. Mode switches between a friend and the bot.
- The Sound button turns sound on or off.
Tips
- Spread out your first guesses in a checkerboard pattern. Every boat is at least two squares long, so you'll still find them all.
- After a hit, try the squares next to it. After two hits in a line, keep going along that line.
- Boats never touch, so the squares all around a found boat are always empty. Don't waste guesses there.
- The Boats to find list shows which boats are left. If only the Big boat is left, look for gaps long enough to hold four squares.
About Paper Boats
Paper Boats is our take on the classic grid guessing game, with folded paper boats on a sketchbook page instead of anything scary. Hits are pencil X's and misses are splashes.
The bot gets cleverer with each level: on Easy it mostly guesses, on Medium it hunts around its hits, and on Hard it works out where boats could still be hiding.
