Paper Peaks

A cheerful card puzzle drawn on a school desk. Three folded-paper mountains are stacked with hand-doodled index cards, and you clear them by tapping any face-up card one higher or one lower than the card on the notepad. Keep a run going for bigger and bigger points, and when nothing fits, flip a new card from the draw pile. Each level hands out fewer wild doodle stars and a shorter draw pile, so plan your runs.

How to play

  1. Tap any face-up card that is one higher or one lower than the card on the notepad. King and Ace connect, so you can go K, A, 2 or 2, A, K.
  2. Cards flip face up when both cards covering them are gone.
  3. When no card fits, tap the draw pile to flip a new notepad card. The draw pile lights up when it is your only move.
  4. Every card in an unbroken run scores more: 10, 20, 30 and up. Drawing a card ends the run.
  5. Clear all three peaks to win the level. Peak tops are worth 100 bonus points, and every card left in the draw pile is worth 25.
  6. Wild doodle stars in the draw pile, coloured in with every pencil in the box, let any card follow them.
  7. If the draw pile runs out and nothing fits, you lose a pencil and get a fresh deal. Lose all 3 and the game is over.

Controls

  • Tap or click a card to play it, and tap or click the draw pile to draw.
  • On a keyboard, press 1 to 0 to play a face-up card (numbered left to right), or use the arrow keys and Enter. Space or D draws, U undoes and H shows a hint.
  • Undo takes back your last move and Hint circles a good card to play. Both are limited each round. The Sound button turns sound on or off.

Tips

  • Before you play, look for the card that keeps your run going longest. Sometimes the lower card opens a longer chain.
  • Play cards that are covering face-down cards first. Uncovering new cards gives you more choices.
  • Don't draw while you still have a move. Every card left in the draw pile is worth bonus points at the end.
  • Save your undo for the end of a round, when one wrong pick can leave you stuck.

About Paper Peaks

Paper Peaks is a solitaire card puzzle in the tri-peaks family, dealt across three folded-paper mountains on a sketchbook page. The suits are pencil doodles, stars, hearts, moons and flowers, and you clear cards by tapping any face-up card one higher or one lower than the card on the notepad. King and Ace connect, so a run can wrap all the way around.

The scoring rewards long unbroken runs, and every card left in the draw pile at the end is worth bonus points, so the skill is in not drawing until you have to. Wild doodle stars help, but each level hands out fewer of them and a shorter draw pile. You get three pencils before a game is over.
