Pencil Pool

Pool, drawn in coloured pencil. Blue sinks the blue balls and pink sinks the pink ones, then whoever clears their colour first goes for the 8. Aim with a No. 2 pencil, pull back for power and let go. Sink a ball and you shoot again; scratch, and your friend gets ball in hand.

How to play

  1. Pick who to play: invite a friend by text, pass one phone, or play the bot.
  2. Touch the page behind the cue ball and pull back, like a slingshot. The pencil follows your finger, and the dotted line shows where the cue ball will go.
  3. Pull further back for more power (watch the bar), then let go to shoot.
  4. Sink one of your colour and you shoot again. Sink all seven, then the 8 ball, to win the round.
  5. Scratch the cue ball, hit the wrong colour first or hit nothing and it's a foul: the other player can drag the cue ball anywhere before shooting.
  6. Sink the 8 too early, or scratch while sinking it, and you lose the round.

Controls

  • Drag back from the cue ball to aim and set power, then let go to shoot.
  • Ball in hand? Drag the cue ball to where you want it, then aim.
  • On a keyboard, the arrow keys aim (hold Shift for fine aim) and set power, and Space shoots.
  • New round racks the balls again. Mode switches who you play. The Sound button turns sound on or off.

Tips

  • Imagine a ghost ball touching your target on the far side from the pocket, and send the cue ball there. The dotted circle shows it.
  • Gentle shots are easier to control. Full power sends balls bouncing all over the page.
  • Leave the cue ball with a good next shot, not just a pot.
  • With ball in hand, line up a straight shot into a corner pocket.

About Pencil Pool

Pencil Pool is 8-ball pool redrawn in a sketchbook, with coloured-pencil balls and a pencil for a cue.

The bot tries out shots with the same physics you play with. On Hard it rarely misses, so Easy is the one to learn on.
